The Magician.

(Transcript - access)

At 17, I attended an International School abroad and I wanted to be an actress. There were 5 of us who showed up that Saturday morning to do an in depth questionnaire on what careers suited our traits and skills. The 5 of us were: A punk who wanted to be a rockstar, an artist who wanted to be an actress and writer, a sportsman who enjoyed drawing who  wanted to be a footballer, a musician who enjoyed heavy metal and not much else, and finally, a saxophonist and trumpet player who had no idea what he wanted to do with his life… are you sensing a pattern here?

We were the creators.

And because we didn’t want to be corporate the school charged our families a fee so that they could sort us out for them through a 3 hour in depth questionnaire.

My punk friend ticked every single box that contained the word “music” - she was devastated to learn the job role to suit her was Social Worker, especially since she’d ticked music for EVERYTHING. Twenty years later, after attempting work as a Music journalist, she retrained as a Social Worker and now thoroughly loves her job.

When it was my turn to look up which jobs suited me, I coughed on my own inhalation of breath.

 Magician.

2nd career was an Actor

3rd career: Communications and PR.

Hmm… So my poor parents had to make do with being told that their daughter was going to be a magician when she was older. Was there even a university course for that?

15 years went by and I participated in an Archetypes workshop. It was in depth. And after one of the most powerful experiences in my life, my Archetype was revealed to me: Magician.

The Magician is an archetype that is hard to pin down. But through transparency, honesty and self awareness the Magician can be a powerful force for change and transformation. By transforming the self, the Magician can then bring surprise and even miracles to the rest of the world.

In 2017, a burnout occurred that made moving forward particularly strained.

Life just asked me to pay attention.

To take notice of the journey and to act.

And after attempting several times to be an artist and failing or slipping, I decided that the key was a troupe, a coven, a tribe.

Thus Magical Women was born.

The Shape Shifter is also part of the Magician’s archetype, as is the Visionary, the Inventor, the Alchemist, the Priestess and the Exorcist.

We are all magical, as you are, as am I and using the archetype of Magician, you will come to as I have done, all my life, to Self-Trust. And Self-Trust does not mean that you cannot seek reassurance for of course we are visionaries who still entertain the idea of play. For it is through the possibility of utilising the Power of Play that we Self-Trust and discover self in all that we bring into being.

This August, I have danced and embodied an apple circling and spinning around on the surface of my bed, we have gazed at the stars together in the ceiling of my bedroom. I have had the privilege to discover the different notes a treebranch makes when it is played as we play a flute. And as the breeze teases along my cheek, I hear in the air the gentle sound of piano as I hit the notes of branches, one by one, up and down their scales on their smooth and rough stems of skin:

a soft shiny bark, bright sunshine glow and a sparkle shimmering along the bumpy surface of the bark like a drone, or triangle or light bells.

And I have shaken the Epkiri rattle in the seed husks that hang down from the sycamore tree, its branches mimic the weeping willow, in need of a hair trim; a Lockdown haircut.

For the Enlightened Magician naturally trusts their own intuition and they have that ability to handle life as it is, rather than to try to manipulate in an effort to avoid pain and fear.

The Enlightened Magician has developed the art of self-trust deeply enough that they learn the power of play. Because play is an act of trust and vulnerability.

The Enlightened Magician does not fear being discovered, looking silly or being vulnerable so they are able to enter the intuitive world of play, to explore, to examine, to write and reveal all that is yet to be discovered!

Oh do you hear the chamber orchestra of the forest

Oh how the trees sing.

Their orchestra sings

And the wind takes their leaves over oceans and seas

Hidden in their skin, engraved in their seeds are new melodies, new harmonies to sink into new earths, new bodies, new surfaces for new creation, new meditations, a journey awakens a being transforms

I am a magician

Sending ripples across the land forming new worlds, new ways of being,

I see, I feel I breathe,

I am a magician transforming

Weaving

I see I feel I breathe
